Line description missing from the Odoo delivery slip: why, and how to get it back

Line description missing from the Odoo delivery slip: why, and how to get it back

On your Odoo quotations, the real information often sits in the line description: a finish, dimensions, an instruction for the warehouse. By the time the delivery is prepared, it has gone. The transfer and the delivery slip only show the product name.

Quick answer: standard Odoo does not carry the sales order line description over to the stock move, from version 17 to 20. The Kameos Delivery Line Description module copies it to the transfer and to the printed delivery slip, with no configuration. It costs 10 € and works on Odoo 18, 19 and 20, Community and Enterprise alike. You will also see what it does not do.

1. Why the delivery slip forgets what you sold

Take a quotation with two lines of the same product, a wall shelf. Under the first, the salesperson typed “Black oak, 120 x 40 cm”. Under the second, “Matt white, 80 x 40 cm”. For the customer, these are two quite separate items.

Once the order is confirmed, Odoo creates the stock moves. These only carry the product name and its variant attributes. The description typed on the line reaches neither the move, nor the transfer, nor the printed delivery slip. In the warehouse, the picker therefore sees two “Wall shelf” lines that are strictly identical. Which one is the oak? The paper handed to the customer says no more.

This is not a bug introduced by an update: it is a gap in the standard. Odoo has never done it, not in 17, 18, 19 or 20. Teams work around it as best they can: creating one variant per finish, copying the text by hand onto the transfer, or attaching the quotation to the delivery slip.

💡 Key takeaway

In standard Odoo, two lines of the same product with two different descriptions arrive identical in the warehouse. Any information that lives only in the line description is lost to logistics.

2. What the Delivery Line Description module does

The module does one thing: it puts the description of each sales order line on its stock moves. In practice:

  • the Description column of the transfer shows the text of the order line;
  • the printed delivery slip repeats that text under the product, line by line;
  • the product’s delivery note (Inventory tab of the product form), if you use one, is still printed below;
  • a description typed by hand on the move keeps priority: the module does not overwrite it;
  • on Odoo 19 and 20, if you correct the line description after confirmation, the transfer follows.

Transfers that do not come from a sales order (receipts, internal transfers, manual moves) are left untouched. There is nothing to configure, no field is added and no data is migrated: if you uninstall it, transfers go back to the standard description.

💡 Key takeaway

What you type on the quotation line reaches the picker and the customer, without changing the way you enter data. The product note and manual entries are respected.

3. The limits, stated plainly

On Odoo 18, the description does not follow changes. It is set on the move when the move is created. If you correct the quotation line after confirmation, the transfer keeps the old text: you then have to correct it by hand on the transfer. That is the trade-off of this version, and we would rather tell you before you buy. On 19 and 20, the transfer follows the line.

Multi-step deliveries (pick, pack, then ship) have not been verified. If your warehouse works that way, let’s talk before you rely on the module at every step.

Odoo Online (the SaaS version) does not accept custom modules. The module installs on Odoo.sh or on your own server.

Performance-wise, on 19 and 20, the module adds no query per move: the cost does not grow with the number of order lines.

💡 Key takeaway

On 19 and 20, the transfer stays aligned with the sales order line. On 18, the description is fixed when the move is created. Multi-step flows remain to be validated on your side.

4. Price, versions and how to get it

The module costs 10 €, under the OPL-1 licence. It is available for Odoo 18, 19 and 20, Community and Enterprise alike, and depends only on the Sales and Inventory apps.

To get it, write to us : we will send it to you and check with you that it fits your delivery flow.

A module does not replace good data-entry habits: if your salespeople do not fill in the line descriptions, nothing will reach the warehouse. Targeted Odoo training on quotations and deliveries often settles this in a single session.

💡 Key takeaway

10 €, Odoo 18, 19 and 20, Community and Enterprise. The module carries the information; it still has to be entered on the quotation.

⚔️ The Match: standard Odoo vs Kameos module

Criterion Standard Odoo Delivery Line Description
Line description on the transfer No, product name only Yes
Description on the printed delivery slip No Yes, under the product
Two lines of the same product Identical in the warehouse Distinct
Product delivery note Printed Kept, below the description
Description typed by hand on the move Kept Kept, takes priority
Line changed after confirmation No effect on the transfer Followed on 19 and 20 (not on 18)
Configuration — None

Behaviour verified by the module’s automated tests: one-step delivery, from a sales order. Multi-step deliveries have not been verified.

🛒 On the Odoo App Store

Delivery Line Description is on sale on the official Odoo App Store, for 10 € (Odoo 18, 19 and 20): see the module page.

The Verdict: what is sold must reach the warehouse

If your quotations carry finishes, dimensions or instructions in the line descriptions, standard Odoo loses them on the way to delivery. For 10 €, Delivery Line Description takes them all the way to the picker and the customer, with one stated trade-off on version 18.
